Omega at Baselworld

Unlike many horological brand names, Omega chose to reveal much of its Baselworld 2014 collection somewhat ahead of schedule, but it would be a mistake to think that this early unveiling removed any of the lustre from the proceeding themselves. In retrospect, these known watches were actually just the vanguard, as Omega also played a few trump cards at Baselworld to take their vast following by surprise. Ultimately, it is fair to say that no real watchmaking aficionado could have left Baselworld disappointed with their offerings.

Omega Speedmaster Mark II

The Speedmaster Mark II was announced before Baselworld, and formed the centrepiece of our preview blog some weeks ago. We now have two versions of the Omega Speedmaster Mark II watch in stock at Banks Lyon, and this marvellous timepiece has proved to be none the worse for the early promotions. A classic example of an upgrade for a previously beloved watch, the new Speedmaster is distinguished from its predecessor through the introduction of a Co-Axial calibre 3330, an illuminated tachymeter bezel (for use in very poor light conditions) and, on select models, an instantly iconic dash of fluorescent orange colouration. This enthusiastically received Speedmaster retails for 36 monthly payments of £87.78 and a 20% deposit, so not a moment needs to be wasted before you are able to make it your own.

Omega Constellation Pluma

This timepiece was also mentioned as part of our preview blog, but we are now pleased to offer the Omega Constellation Pluma watch as a part of our Baselworld 2014 pre-order collection. Supremely elegant, yet attractively understated, this wristwatch perfectly upholds the established sprit of the Omega Constellation family, whilst introducing a genuinely premium movement into their midst. However, the strength of the Constellation range has always been the beauty that is intrinsic to their forms, and to this end Omega has created a 27 mm mother-of-pearl dial with soft, wave-like patterns that mimic the fine details of a feather. With a diamond set bezel and subtle golden adornments, this gorgeous timepiece is very possibly the finest feminine wristwatch to be heralded by Baselworld.

Limited Edition Omega Speedmaster Apollo 11 Anniversary

A surprise development from Omega, this chronograph is intended to mark the 45th anniversary of the first lunar landing, and is well equipped to be compared with such an illustrious occasion. The black PVD dial is engraved using a high-precision laser, whilst the brown coated nylon strap is specifically designed to echo the NATO timepieces that were in use during the 1950s. Embellished with Omega’s special 18 carat rose gold alloy – “Sedna” – the timepiece also bears further witness to Omega’s heritage by housing the same manual-winding chronograph movement that has seen active use on the moon. You can purchase the limited edition Omega Speedmaster Apollo 11 Anniversary watch from Banks Lyon in the summer of 2014, but only 1,969 examples of this commemorative timepiece will be in worldwide circulation, so be sure to register your interest as soon as possible.

De Ville and the Master Co-Axial

Omega De Ville watches are one of the largest ranges to be encompassed by this famed Swiss brand name, and the array of designs has now become even more vast with the addition of the Trésor and Prestige “Butterfly” watches. These models are respectively inspired by the pioneering 1955 De Ville timepiece and the beauty to be found within nature, and are certain to be well received into this prestigious family. Not content to merely expand their watch catalogue though, Omega has also seen fit to enhance their engineering aptitude with a new Co-Axial escapement. First introduced in 2007, the Co-Axial proved to be a landmark innovation in the world of horology. Incredibly though, Omega has now driven this breathtaking device even further forward, and new ‘Master Co-Axial calibres’ have been made known for both male and female oriented timepieces. These outstanding movements are capable of withstanding magnetic resistances of over 15,000 gauss, and the mechanism utilises the same technology that proved so instrumental in 2013’s Seamaster Aqua Terra. Omega President, Stephen Urquhart, has declared his intentions to implement such movements within all prominent Omega watches of the future, but for now they are available in the newly publicised Seamaster Aqua Terra and Seamaster 300.

Evidently, Omega’s somewhat different approach to Baselworld 2014 served not to dampen the enthusiasm over their new range, but actually to heighten the anticipation surrounding their complete assemblage. Keep a close eye on our Baselworld 2014 Releases page in the coming weeks, as more luxury watches will doubtless be added on a periodic basis.
